Disability and Communication Systems
Description
In this course, students will learn strategies suited to the unique needs of children and adults living life with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and acquired brain injury who have communication disorders. Students will learn to use manual signs and natural gestures to support communication and encourage and support language development in children and adults with communication disorders. Students will also learn the principles of developing and using a variety of communication tools; including Picture Communication Systems, PECS (Picture Communication Exchange System), American Sign Language, Braille, and Bliss Symbolics.
