Crisis Management and Prevention
Description
In this course, students will examine the history and prevalence of abuse towards individuals living with disabilities. Students will learn to identify the types of abuse and examine their legal responsibility in reporting and documenting observations, suspicions, allegations, and disclosures of abuse. Students will explore and examine legislative requirements and the serious occurrence reporting guidelines. Students will also examine sexuality, education, and strategies to promote the development of a positive self-image and healthy sexual awareness. In addition, students will learn to identify the indicators of disruptive and risk-taking behaviour. Students will develop the skills to evaluate and demonstrate appropriate, safe, nonharmful strategies to avoid, decelerate, and deescalate risk-taking behaviour. Students will also learn how to evaluate and demonstrate appropriate, safe, nonharmful measures within a team environment.
